Anti virus software is a tool used to protect your computer from malware attacks, and minimize the spyware that lags your computer while people are tracking your activities. This software is required in the PC designed computers, however what about the counterpart, Mac?
Recently there has been a wave of concern over computer viruses for the Mac’s. There are many conflicting reports that have been released in succession. Some reports have stated there is a need for antivirus software to be running in the background. A short time later, those same reports were withdrawn. Some reports indicate that the Mac is securely clean, in addition to others showing the Mac being targeted. The conflicts with in the development community have left many Mac users questioning the need for antivirus, and anti spyware programs. With that level of confusing information being released, who wouldn’t be? As a Mac user, you should consider the following:
The typical computer virus is a software program designed to spread from one computer to another creating havoc and interfering with daily operations. If you keep this in mind and take a moment to review the virus monitoring information available on Sophos, Symantec and others, you find a significantly number in the Mac malware related incidences. When examining the list related to PC’s it is difficult to count the numerous attacks over the last 20 years. Examining the same site, list and time frame for Mac’s and you find that you can count the number of attacks on your hands. That says a lot about the security of your Mac.
Another point in favor of the Mac’s security is that there is not enough people using a Mac formatted computer. Creators of virus programs are glory hogs, and thus want their handy work to spread from one place to another quickly; hindering as many people as possible. There are nearly 90% more PC users vs Mac users, thus a PC is a better choice to feed their motivation. There are simply not enough Mac users, at this time, to maintain the attention of these vile and virtual Frankenstein programmers.
However there are some minor things to keep in mind that may put your system at risk.
* Running Microsoft Windows on your Mac
* Networking with Windows Computers
* Running Microsoft Office Often
Without getting into the programming technical side, of which I know little about, it is clear why the Mac is a much safer over all computer option. Even with the confusing releases, and information, the need for a virus software programs while running a Mac is in effect unnecessary. The final antivirus choice is up to you. It may bring peace of mind to some, but remember it also uses a lot of your resources. While making your decision keep all of the facts in mind so you know you are picking the best option for your system.
