A Mac Switcher Diary
Whenever you chose to switch computers it can be a difficult process. You have the transfer of information from one computer to another, but the benefit is obvious. There is a more challenging switch, the switch from PC to Mac. Anyone choosing the route will find some benefits, and some challenges. The challenges come more from within, than from the process itself. Often though, it is more than just moving data. Let’s take a look at the advantages and disadvantages.
This is a Personal Computer (PC) oriented world. Businesses and personal choices seem to focus on the PC format. This means most networking programs; software and personal operating systems are designed for the PC. Macs are simply the odd man on the block because of this. Mac’s require a dedicated support system to work correctly. Many hotels do not offer support for the Mac format. This makes traveling with a MacBook a little difficult. This also makes it difficult to find Wifi elsewhere. Simply put, traveling for business with a MacBook can end the deal easily. Because of the aforementioned concern, many people who make the switch find themselves with two computers. Instead of just moving the information over, they are forced to work both computers to fulfill all of the needs related to their computer system.
The next obvious obstacle is the difference in the cost of the machines. A PC benefits from a broad range of information providers, and hardware producers. This means your bottom line, the bottom line of any new computer owner, is lower with the PC. There is only one Apple. There is only one company generating your products, creating the computers and improving upon them constantly. In addition to this, with incredible software technology being created daily, Mac is the kid brother. They are the last one thought of when a new program is developed. It will always be available in the PC compatible format first and foremost. It makes logical sense to develop them this way; however it also leaves Mac owners waiting for the next big release.
From the same disadvantages come advantages. Mac computers are however, the most secure computers on the market. Most of those who develop malware also avoid the Mac computers. They do not get the attention they so desire if only 10% of the world are infected by their virus. A sleek design makes the Mac computer more appealing aesthetically speaking as well. This enticing look and light weight feature make the Mac computer a real joy to operate, particularly when it is compared to the PC’s boxy design and trial and error look.
Then there is the operating system comparison. Hands down the Mac operating system is the more stable, dependable and user friendly operating system available on the market. There have been many updates, introductions and aspirations of the Windows interface and operating systems that have proven faulty, unreliable and incompatible with specifically intended components. If the transition needs to be to a PC behaving computer, check out Apple’s Boot Camp, which is simply a built in Windows interface program. This makes the Mac the best option on the market today or ever.

I agree with John above. I guess I am so used to what I have, I'm not sure I want to test the mac waters. Good commercials though.

I use a older mac for a tv since it has a tv tuner in it, if they were cheaper i would switch over for my primary computer, osx is nice
I tried using a Mac OS on my sister's laptop, it was my first time at that and let me tell you, it is so foreign to me at first! But once you get the hang of it, you'll actually say that it has some pretty cool features as well.
